Welcome to Deconstructing With Jesus
This site was created for people who’ve been harmed by the church, disillusioned by toxic theology, or left wondering if there’s still a place for them in faith.
If that’s you—you’re not alone. And you don’t have to walk this road by yourself.
This space was born from my own journey through deconstruction, religious trauma, and ultimately, spiritual healing. I grew up in a faith tradition that taught me to fear my questions, silence my intuition, and conform to a version of God that didn’t feel like love. When I finally allowed myself to ask the hard questions, I discovered something surprising: Jesus was still with me—in the margins, in the questions, and in the quiet work of healing.

Hi, I’m Cindy, the creator of Deconstructing With Jesus.
Hi, I’m Cindy, the creator of Deconstructing With Jesus.
This space exists to explore faith, deconstruction, and healing with honesty, compassion, and freedom.
My own deconstruction began in 2015, when I noticed more and more evangelical Christians embracing Donald Trump—people who had once taught me that character and integrity were non-negotiable in leaders. That disconnect between the faith I had been raised with and the values I believed Jesus embodied was the spark that led me to start quietly questioning everything I’d always believed. I left the Republican Party—the same one I had once been deeply involved in—the day Trump became the presumptive nominee.
A few years later, my journey intensified during an extremely painful season of spiritual abuse and personal upheaval. I was leaving a marriage that had become unsafe for my children and me. Choosing to walk away meant not just rebuilding my life as a single mom, but also losing my faith community. That loss was devastating. But over time, I came to see how often evangelical spaces prioritize control and appearances over truth and well-being. Letting go of that system was the beginning of a new kind of freedom—one without fear, shame, or manipulation.
Deconstruction hasn’t been easy. It’s brought grief, confusion, and loneliness. However, it has also led me to a deeper understanding of freedom, compassion, and truth. I’ve learned that real faith shouldn’t be used to control people—it should heal them. It should lead to justice, wholeness, and love.
I hold a Bachelor of Science in Psychology and am currently pursuing a Master of Education in Clinical Mental Health Counseling. My academic training, alongside my personal experience, gives me a unique lens on the intersection of faith, mental health, and healing from religious and relational trauma. As a single mom, I also understand how complex it can be to navigate faith shifts while trying to raise emotionally and spiritually healthy kids.
Deconstructing With Jesus is for anyone who has felt abandoned by the church, wounded by religion, or uncertain whether faith has a place outside of harmful systems. If you’re questioning, grieving, or healing—you’re not alone. You are welcome here.
